Tonight (12/4/09) a great event came to Nashville. A screening of the short films ‘The Laundry’ and ‘Sugar‘ along with music by some pretty awesome musicians from Sam and Ruby, Katie Herzig, Andy Davis, and Rob Blackledge. This all came about to raise awareness for ‘Falling Whistles’ which is a powerful story/movement taking place right now in the Congo. Be sure and visit the Falling Whistles site to learn more. Here are a few pictures from the event. Visit... [Read the full story]
Learning to love your city

On a recent trip to McKays book store I found a book that caught my eye. It was called ‘Mercy Street: Seeing grace on the streets of New York‘ I flipped through it and opened up to a chapter about animals that live on the street with their owners. I read through how people with animals were easier to open up conversation with on the street because it was a natural open to talk about their animals. I am an animal lover and can understand how people can talk about their animals with complete strangers having... [Read the full story]
‘Only Nuns Change Habits Overnight’ Book Review

This review was written by: Michelle McNeil for this blog. As someone who is very familiar with self-help books I was fairly skeptical (but interested) when this title came across my desk. ( ok, so not really my desk, more like my hand, as in my roommate handed it to me and said, ” I think this could help you”) Perfect for the New Year, Linamen offers practical tips on how to stop procrastinating, how to shake up your life, and how to beat those energy busters that we all face from time to time. This book is... [Read the full story]

What I Am Listening To…(not Christmas music)

Recently I dropped a few Jackons at the iTunes store to get some new music for my listening pleasure. I walked away with a few treasures that I wanted to share with you… 1. Ane Brun - I can say one thing … UH-MAZING. Ane is from Norway but currently lives in Sweden. She released her first album in 2003. Though she has only had two releases in America she is hugely popular in parts of Europe. From the first 30 second sound clip I knew I had to own this album. Her voice is smooth and sultry mixed with folk classical.... [Read the full story]

Hands on with Nikon D90

It has been about a week with my new Nikon D90 and I am in love. This new model from Nikon has exceeded my expectations. I have used Nikon’s for years, but the D90 is something to be excited about. This is my third DSLR from the Nikon family. I started with a D100 then moved to the D50 and now the D90. The D90 is far superior that the D100 or D90. The D100 was a strong and sturdy camera that had a great response time. I was not as impressed with the D50. The D50 had slow response time and even though it was 6mp... [Read the full story]
Aperture - Testing Apple’s Photo Software

Recently I got a copy of Aperture 2 by Apple. I had not used the software since it first came out. The first copy I had of Aperture was weak and buggy, the new version seems to have improved drastically. I love the ability to really handle RAW photo files. iPhoto is sluggish when handling 5mb files while Aperture flies right through them. So far my favorite features are the recovery slider, vibrancy slider, and easy access to individual color balance. These features alone make the program worth purchasing. To improve... In order to get rid of all my old film prints I am going to start scanning them in (a little each week). So I will be updating my Flickr account with some old concert and travel photos. After I get all the photos done —the video…scary thought. Here is the first round. Here are a few previews: Technorati Tags: Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Concert Photography, Nashville, Christmas Read More →
